Acrobat -- Batch Combine All PDF Files in a Folder

Direct purchase using PayPal ($85 per license)!

A free demo version of this tool that will combine up to two files in each folder can be found here.

This is a new batch tool, so it can only be used in Acrobat Pro.
With this tool you can combine all of the (PDF) files in a folder to a single file (in order!) and have this file saved into the same folder (using the folder's name as the new file name).
New feature: You can now select to automatically create a bookmark pointing to each file in the merged document.
ANOTHER new feature: Now you can also select to create a single, "master" file at the end of the process, which contains all of the processed files, including a bookmark for each folder and file.

So if you have the following folder structure:

- \Root
- 1.pdf
- 2.pdf
- 3.pdf
- \SubFolder1
-- 4.pdf
-- 5.pdf
- \SubFolder2
-- \SubFolder3
--- 6.pdf
--- 7.pdf
-- 8.pdf
-- 9.pdf

The script will create 3 combined PDF files: files 1 to 3 will be saved as Root.pdf in the root folder; files 4 to 5 will be saved as SubFolder1.pdf in SubFolder1; files 6 to 7 will be saved as SubFolder3.pdf in SubFolder3; and files 8 to 9 will be saved as SubFolder2.pdf in SubFolder2.

Here's another example:
We have a folder called "Placeholder 3" under C:\Temp\Forms\.

We run the batch on "C:\Temp\Forms" and select to create a bookmark for each file (excluding the ".pdf" extension).

The result is a single file, called "Placeholder 3.pdf".

This file is the result of all the single files in that folder, including the bookmarks we wanted to create.

After the individual files have been combined, you can create the "master" file:

Does it support Adobe DC Pro? and arabic? in case the folder names are in Arabic?

@Sal
Yes, it is compatible with Acrobat DC.
And I haven't tested it on folders with Arabic names but I believe it should work, yes.

Does it works with jpg instead of pdf.

Folder 1
1.jpg
2.jpg
3.jpg

Folder 2
1.jpg
2.jpg

Result
Folder 1.pdf contains 1.jpg & 2.jpg & 3.jpg
Folder 2. pdf contains 1.jpg & 2.jpg

@Joseph

Not directly. You need to first convert the JPG files into PDF files, and then you'll be able to run this script on them and merge them.

Hi,

I'm interested to get combined folders to a pdf.
The solution should display the names of the folders in the bookmark...
Does it work this way?

Gilad D. (try67) said...

Yes, that's what it does.

Hi,

Does this work if the PNG files are all in one folder, but are already renamed with the unique identifier. Basically, I want to create 8882 PDF files from 56000 PNG files, depending upon the unique identifier that they are renamed as.

For example, files

"Customer 1 1.png"
"Customer 1 2.png"
"Customer 1 3.png"
"Customer 2 1.png"
"Customer 2 2.png"
"Customer 2 3.png"
"Customer 3 1.png"
"Customer 3 2.png"
"Customer 3 3.png"

The output needs to be "Customer 1.pdf" for

"Customer 1 1.png"
"Customer 1 2.png"
"Customer 1 3.png"

The output needs to be "Customer 2.pdf" for

"Customer 2 1.png"
"Customer 2 2.png"
"Customer 3 3.png"

etc

I would like to run this overnight and produce 8k PDF files as this is how many uniques there are.

Can this be done if all PNG Documents are in one folder, but named with a unique identifier.

This version of the tool can't process non-PDF files. You have to first convert them to PDFs and then run it on the folder. Or you can use the stand-alone version of this tool (http://try67.blogspot.com/2015/03/batch-combine-all-pdf-files-in-folders.html) which is capable of converting images files to PDFs.

Hi, I purchased this last year and was working great, but on Acrobat DC now, when I run this, the Combine Folders button is grayed out after the add files to files array has run. Any idea how I can fix this?

Gilad D. (try67) said...

@Ryan Main

Make sure all the Preferences are set as described in the installation instructions, especially the one regarding the "Global object security policy". If you did that and are still having issues please contact me privately and I'll help you further with this.
