Acrobat -- Import/Export Tooltips

This new handy tool is perfect for translators who work with PDF files.
If your file contains form fields then you probably want to translate the tooltip text that appears when the user hovers over your fields. So how to do it?

Well, the solution is this new script I've developed that allows you to export the full list of tooltips to a text file which can be edited in Excel and then imported back into the PDF, quickly and easily.

Here's how it works.
You have a PDF file with form fields and tooltips, like this one:

You run the Export Tooltips command on it (can be seen in the Tools menu in the screenshot above), and it generates a text file that contains the field names as well as their current tooltips.
This text file can be opened in Excel, or any other plain-text editor (like Notepad or Notepad++):

At this point we can edit the second column and inserted our translated texts (in Spanish, in this case):

We close this file in Excel, go back to Acrobat and now run the Import Tooltips command:

We select the edited text file and the script imports the new tooltips:

Acrobat -- Localize (Translate) FormRouter Calendars

FormRouter offers a very nice add-on feature for Acrobat: A calendar widget. However, this widget only contains English texts, and sometimes there's a need to localize those texts to other languages.
To do that I've developed this tool that allows you to edit the FR calendar widgets in your file and apply any texts you want to the day and month fields in them.

Here we have a PDF file in Portuguese with a FR widget added to it. As you can see, the texts in the calendar are in English, which is not consistent with the rest of our file and doesn't look professional:

So we click on the "Localize FormRouter Calendars" button under Add-On Tools and enter the localized texts:

Now the calendar is edited to use the new texts, which looks much better, but its functionality remains exactly the same as before:

IMPORTANT: The script can not localize the date string that appears in the field after a selection is made in the calendar, only the calendar itself.

Illustrator -- Import/Export All Text Frames (TXT, XML)

This script will create a text or XML file with the text from all text frames of an illustration. The file can be edited and then imported back to the illustration.

There's also another version for this script, in which the full formatting information is included. The file can be edited (also in Trados) and then imported back to the illustration. Very useful for translation workflows.

InDesign -- Import/Export All Stories (including Trados compatibility)

This script will export all stories from an InDesign file to text files, which can then be edited (in a text editor or in Trados), and imported back into InDesign. Very useful for translation workflows and does not require conversion of the file to INX.
