Acrobat -- Export Bookmarks Structure (to PDF/TXT), including page numbers

Direct purchase using PayPal ($60 per license)!

Update (13/02/2020): Now available is a free demo version for this tool, that will export up to three bookmarks and down to three levels deep.

This script will create an independent TXT or PDF file with the summary of the entire bookmarks structure, properly indented and formatted according to the original structure.
It is also possible to add the page number to which each bookmark points to, creating a sort of Table Of Contents.

For example:

Acrobat -- Extract Lowest-Level Bookmarks

Direct purchase using PayPal ($40 per license)!

Update (09/08/2019): Now available is a free demo version of this tool, which will extract the first 3 bookmarks from the file.

This script is similar to my Extract Chapters by Bookmarks script, only it extracts the pages that belong to the lowest-level bookmarks instead of the highest-level ones (the "chapters").
This is useful if you want to split your document into small, usable files based on your bookmarks structure.

So, for example, all of the highlighted bookmarks in this tree will be extracted as new files:

Batch Edit File Links in PDF Files

Direct purchase using PayPal ($75 only per license)!

SPECIAL OFFER (This tool + Batch Edit URL Links):
Direct purchase using PayPal ($100 only for both licenses)!

Update (26-02-2019): This tool now supports editing links to external PDF files, while maintaining the target page or Named Destination used.

Update (25-06-2014): Yet another new feature! The tool now allows you to select which elements to process: Link objects, form fields, or even (and this is the new feature) bookmarks.

Update (22-06-2014): Another new feature in both the full version and the free demo version: A new button that allows you to write out all the file links in your files to a text file, so you can see what kind of links are used in your file, whether they're relative or absolute, and know how best to edit them.

Update (20-06-2014): Now available is a free demo version of this tool, which will process up to 3 links/form fields in the first 3 files in the selected folder.

This new stand-alone tool is very similar to my other tool, Batch Edit URL Links, only this one allows you to edit the file paths of either links or buttons.

Using this tool you can edit all the "Open a file" actions in all of the links or buttons in an entire folder of PDF files so that they point to a new location. For example, imagine you moved your linked files from one server ("File_Server") to a new one ("New_Server"). You run the tool, enter the following settings, and all of the PDF files in the selected folder are edited in seconds:

The application window (click to enlarge)

Another possible way of using this tool is to convert relative file links (which are created by default in Acrobat), to absolute links. So if you have a link pointing to "../../MyFile.pdf" and you want it to point to a fixed path, like "C:\Reference Files\MyFile.pdf", you can use this tool to do that as well.
Of course, the other way around is possible too.

And now this tool is offered as a special of a special offer: You can buy it together with the other batch tool for just $100, instead of the usual price of $150 (for both). Use the Buy Now button at the top of the page to enjoy this great deal!

If you have any questions regarding this tool, you can contact me directly.

Acrobat -- Create Bookmarks from Titles

Direct purchase using PayPal ($75 only per license)!

Or you can buy this tool together with Create TOC from Bookmarks, for just $99 for the pair!

Another Update (12/09/2018): A free demo version of this tool is now available. It will create up to 3 titles in the first 10 pages of the file.

Another Update (30/10/2014): It's now also possible to specify the maximum font size to be used for detecting the titles in the file, as well as to remove the existing bookmarks when running the tool.

Update: The tool can now process up to 999 pages, instead of just 99... Also, a new feature has been added to it where you can select which pages to process (skipping ones that you don't want to bookmark, like the cover or index pages, for example), and also specifying the minimum font size to consider as a title. So if you know that the titles in your file are at least 10-points large, you can tell the script to ignore anything smaller than that.

This tool tries to bring order to messy PDF files by identifying the title (or heading) on each page and creating a bookmark to match it.

Many articles, manuals and books are created without a proper bookmarks structure, and sometimes even without a Table of Contents (TOC). This tool tries to fix that creating a bookmarks structure based on the most important title that appears on each page your file. If multiple pages contain the same title, only the first one will be considered, since it doesn't make sense to have identical bookmarks pointing to each page.

After the script identifies the candidate titles, it will display a set of dialogs with the text found for each page of the document. You can tick each page on or off, and even edit the text. At the end, the bookmarks you selected will be created, and will automatically point to their matching pages.

Let's look at an example: We have a file without any bookmarks in it. We run the script from the menu item it added under "Tools":

Acrobat -- Create Table Of Contents (TOC) in a PDF file from Bookmarks

Direct purchase using PayPal ($75 only per license)!

A free demo version of this tool, which will process only the first 3 (sub-)bookmarks in the file and create a TOC from them, is now available. The full version has unlimited functionality, of course.

Special Offer: Since this tool is closely related to my other tool, Create Bookmarks from Titles, I'm now offering both scripts for a bargain price of just $99 (each one costs $75 on their own). Click here to purchase them both directly via PayPal.

Update: (22/08/2017):
I've improved the way the TOC is generated and included a brand new feature: It is now possible to maintain the style of the bookmarks in the TOC itself. This could be their text color or whether they are bold, italic, or both. The TOC will reflect these features, while still being clickable, just like before.
And this new feature is also available in the free demo version, if you want to test it out before purchasing the tool!

With this script you can generate a fully functional Table of Contents (TOC) for your PDF file, using just the bookmarks structure.
The script will analyze the bookmarks of your file and will add the newly created TOC where you specify, including working links to the pages the bookmarks link to.
It will even add an extra bookmark at the top of the list to itself.

Here's how it looks like in action:

The original file with the bookmarks tree on the left, and the tool's button on the right.
After we click the "Create Bookmarks from TOC" button, the TOC is generated.
We can then save it as a stand-alone file (without links), or embed it into the main file, with clickable links:

After we choose to insert the TOC into the file, it now looks like this (notice the "Contents" text is clickable, and also that the styling of the "Contents" and "Preface" bookmarks has been maintained in the TOC):

The same file, now with a clickable, stylized TOC

Batch Edit URL Links in PDF Files

Version I: Direct purchase using PayPal (Older version: $75 only per license)!

Version II: Direct purchase using PayPal (New version, $125 per license)!

This powerful little tool allows you to edit all the links in a PDF based on a simple search and replace command, and it can be used to process an entire folder (and all of its sub-folders) in a single go.
The tool can edit not just URL links, but also links to files, and convert them to URL links.

UPDATE (29-06-2017): It's now also possible to perform Search & Replace commands using a Regular Expression, including back references. This feature is included in both versions of the tools, as well as in the demo versions.

The application's dialog, with the new Regular Expression option

UPDATE (16-07-2015):  Yet another new feature for this tool, an option to export all the URL links in all of the selected files to a text file, included in v. 2 of the tool.
In addition, there's now a free demo version of the v. 2 tool, available as well.

NEW FEATURE IV (25-12-2014): The tool can now process links with JavaScript-actions that use the launchURL method.

NEW FEATURE IV (14-11-2014): The tool now also processes bookmarks, as well as fields and links.

NEW FEATURE III (19-06-2014): Now this tool will also process links associated with button form fields, not just Link objects.

NEW FEATURE II: A new version of this tool is now available, which allows you to edit the URLs of your links in multiple files, using multiple commands, specified in a list.
So instead of having to make one change at a time, you can now run as many Search & Replace or Append commands as you wish!
The new tool is available for only $125, and can be purchased through here.

New interface of the tool:

There's still a free demo version of the tool available (old version). The demo version will process up to 3 links on the first 3 pages of the first 3 files. The full version has no such limitations, of course.

How the older version looks like:

Imagine the following situation:
You have a set of PDF files which point to your website:
"Welcome" links to http://www.mysite.com/welcome.html
"Intro page" links to http://www.mysite.com/intro.html
"Next" links to http://www.mysite.com/page1.html
etc.
But then you decide to change your domain name to http://www.mynewsite.org and now you need to update all of your PDF files!

Well, this tool will do that for you. You just specify the folder to run it on, the Search & Replace action, the text to match ("mysite.com") and the text to replace it with ("mynewsite.org"), and voila! All of your files are updated in a second, and you get a detailed log of all the changes made to them.

This tool can also append text to the beginning or end of your URL links, so if you want to add a new URL parameter to the end of all of your links, you can easily do so.

This tool does not require you to actually have Acrobat. All you need is to have Java installed on your computer.

If you have any questions regarding this tool, you can contact me directly.

Acrobat -- Extract Chapters by Bookmarks

Direct purchase using PayPal ($40 only)!

This script will extract all the chapters from a PDF file based on the bookmarks structure. The names of the created files are based on the names of the bookmarks.

New feature: This script will now preserve the bookmark structure of each new chapter created. (Note: the bookmarks themselves will only work if they point to a Named Destination)
Due to a bug in Acrobat XI, this feature had to be disabled...

A free demo version of this script is available here.
This version will only extract the first chapter. Purchase the full version and be able to extract them all!

Acrobat -- Search & Replace Text in Bookmarks

And all of the matching bookmark names are edited.
Before:                              After:

On top of that, you can even use some basic Regular Expression commands, like "\d" for a digit, "\s" for white-spaces, "$" as the beginning of the string and "^" for the end of it, etc.

Batch Edit Zoom Level in Bookmarks

Direct purchase using PayPal ($50 only)!

Update: You can now test out this tool by downloading this free demo version.
The demo version works exactly like the full version, but it will only process the first 3 (top-level) bookmarks of the first 3 files you select, whereas the full version will process all the bookmarks in an entire folder (and all sub-folders).

With this little yet powerful tool you can edit an entire folder of PDF files within seconds and set all of the zoom level settings in bookmarks actions to one of the following options:
  • Inherit Zoom
  • Fit Page
  • Actual Size
  • Fit Width
  • Fit Visible

Simply select the folder, set the options you want, and click Run!

The tool can also convert JavaScript actions to a standard "Go to a page in this document"-action.

Note: This application requires Java installed. However, you don't need to have Acrobat on your computer for it to work.

If you have any questions regarding this tool, you can contact me directly.

Batch Change Bookmarks Type (FREE)

This small tool will convert the bookmarks created by combining PDF files to "regular" bookmarks, like those created using Ctrl+B or using a script.

I'm offering this tool FOR FREE: Download now!

The app looks like this:

This is the bookmarks panel of a file before running the tool on it. The first three bookmarks were created when the file was combined, and the last one was created manually. Notice they have different icons.

This is the same file, after being processed with the tool.
All bookmarks are now of the same kind.

If you find this tool useful and would like to donate, it's always appreciated!

Acrobat -- Link to a Specific Bookmark in a PDF

Batch version: Buy Now ($60 only)
Non-batch version: Buy Now ($40 only)
Direct purchase using PayPal!

PDF files have various Open Parameter options: you can link to a PDF at a specific page, named destination, zoom level, etc. But what you can't do is link to a specific bookmark. Well, until now...

With this new script created by me you can create a hyperlink to a specific bookmark in your PDF, using a simple URL parameter, like so:
http://www.myserver.com/files/products.pdf?bookmark=Index of all products

When the reader opens the file in their browser using this link, they will automatically jump to the specified bookmark, while still being able to browse the rest of the file, as usual.

Using the batch version of this script you can apply the code to multiple files in the same process (if you have Acrobat Pro, of course).

If you have any questions regarding this tool, you can contact me directly.

Acrobat -- Create Bookmarks from File

Direct purchase using PayPal ($60 only per license)!

  • Launching the browser at a certain URL
  • NEW FEATURE: Opening another PDF file

The input file has a simple structure and can be easily created in Excel:

Or in a plain-text editor:
