Merge PDF Files via Command Line

This is a stand-alone utility for merging PDF files via a command-line.
Using is is very simple. All you have to do is run the following:
PDFMerger inputfiles outputfile
and the tool will combine your input files (in order) and create the output file.

For example, running:

PDFMerger c:\temp\10000001.pdf c:\temp\10000002.pdf c:\temp\combined.pdf

will combine 10000001.pdf and 10000002.pdf into a new file called combined.pdf.

Acrobat -- Mass Validate Form Fields

This script can be used to mass set a validation script for multiple form fields in your document, namely a validation for a number field of a lower and/or higher limit.
You can choose whether or not to allow blank values, and to specify the field's name and page range to which to apply the validation.

Acrobat Pro -- Batch Search Files

This batch script will allow you to process an entire folder of files for a certain term, and then perform an action on them in case the term was found. The actions available are:

• Copy to a folder: Specify an output folder to which all the files with a match will be copied.
• Create a PDF summary of the file paths: At the end of the batch a new PDF file will be created, containing the paths of the matching files.
• Write file paths to the console: Will print the paths of the matching files to the built-in console of Acrobat.
• Print entire file: Will send each matching file to the printer.
• Print matching pages: Will print only the actual pages in the matching files where the match was found.
• Print matching pages with highlights: Same as above, but will also highlight the matches on the actual pages.

Compatibility Note: This tool is compatible and tested with all versions of Adobe Acrobat Pro from version 8 and higher, including DC.

Acrobat/Reader -- Get Field Dimensions (FREEBIE)

Acrobat/Reader -- Folder Locations (FREEBIE)

This is just a handy little tool that I am giving away for free.
It can be used to display the different types of internal folders Acrobat uses for things such as javascripts, batch sequences, stamps, temporary files, etc.

How to use this script:
-Open the file.
-Select All. Copy.
-Open Acrobat. Open a PDF file (this is necessary due to a bug in Acrobat/Reader).
-Open the JavaScript Console (Ctrl+J or Cmd+J).
-Select all the text in the window and paste the contents from the file over it.
-Select all the text you just pasted and press Ctrl+Enter (or Cmd+Enter).
You will see this menu:

-Select the folder you wish to find.
You will see this dialog:

You can now copy the path from the dialog to an explorer window (or through the Run... command) to open it directly.

This tool can even be used from Reader, if you enabled the interactive console, or if you have my "Run JavaScript Code from within Reader" tool.

Acrobat/Reader -- Automatically Set Field Calculation Order

Acrobat's built-in dialog for setting the Field Calculation Order can be a real hassle. The only options in it are to move a field up or down the list, so if you have a document with a lot of fields that needs to be ordered properly, it can take ages.

That's why I developed this tool to automatically set the field calculation order of all the fields in a document with a single click. You can choose from the following options:

• Set calculation order by rows (top to bottom, left to right)
• Set calculation order by columns (left to right, top to bottom)
• Set calculation order alphabetically by field name (ascending/descending)
• New Feature: Set calculation order based on an input file, such as a text file or a CSV file

Acrobat -- Crop Even and Odd Pages

Imagine that you scanned an article and all the pages have extra white-space on them. How do you get rid of it?
Sometimes you want to remove the white space from both sides of the page; or just from the left size of the odd pages (1, 3, 5, etc.) and the right side of the even pages (2, 4, 6, etc.); or the other way around.
With this script you can do all of that with a single click. You just run the script from the Tools menu, enter how many inches to crop, and the rest is done for you!

Reader -- Create Bookmarks Summary

Reader -- Create Comments Summary

As we all know, Adobe Reader is more limited in functionality than Adobe Acrobat (makes sense, since it's a free product), but sometimes you want to achieve certain things in Reader that are also possible in Acrobat, like creating a summary of the comments in your file.

In the past I have created scripts that create PDF or Plain Text comment summaries for Acrobat (See: http://try67.blogspot.com/2008/11/acrobat-create-comments-summary-txt-pdf.html), and now comes the Reader version.
Because it's not possible to generate PDF files in Reader, or to create TXT files (unless you have a special right applied to your file), I've chosen a different path.
This script will create the comment summary and then present it in a new window, inside a text box, which you can then copy & paste into Word, Notepad or any other application. It looks something like this:

Important:
The script will only work on files with the Commenting in Reader right extended.
And yes, the comments summary it creates includes sticky notes!

Acrobat -- Extract Pages with Proper Sequential Names

Acrobat built-in Page Extraction method creates files which are not properly named, such as page1, page2... page9, page10. If you then try to sort them, page10 will come after page1, instead of after page9, like so:

Acrobat -- Convert Form Fields Type

Warning: Selecting fields from a list does NOT work in Acrobat DC or 2017 due to a bug in the application itself, but you can still select them using the page number / field type / name filters, and they'll be converted.

I've created a new mechanism that does allow selecting fields from a list in Acrobat DC/2017, but it is more limited than in previous versions. It allows selecting individual fields, or a range of fields from an alphabetically-sorted list and processing them all at once.

Also, Acrobat DC is not capable of converting fields whose name starts with "undefined"... Those fields have to be renamed to something else (for example, using this other tool I've created) before they can be converted.

Update: The tool now allows you to select specific fields to process from a list, so you're no longer limited convert all the fields of a certain type on certain pages (although that option is still available). You can now pick and choose the ones you want to process from a list of all the fields in the file, or just those on the current page.
The Acrobat Form Wizard can sometimes make mistakes while identifying your form fields, or sometimes you create a form and then want to change some text fields to buttons, for example. Until now you had to it manually, which can take a lot of time.
With this script you can automatically convert all form fields of a certain type to another type, in the entire document or on a specific page. It's also possible to match a certain field name.

This version will only convert the first 10 text fields on the first page to check-boxes. Purchase the full version and be able to convert all field types on all pages!

When you run the script you get this window:

In this instance, we'll convert all Signature fields on the first page, whose name contains "Sig", to text fields.

You make your selections, press OK, and the new fields will appear in the exact location of the old ones.
Notice: when using this tool the converted fields will lose all formatting, validation and calculation settings.

Acrobat -- Sort Bookmarks

With this script you can sort all of your bookmarks (ascending/descending) in various ways:

• By Name (Update: You can now select whether this sort should be case-sensitive or not)
• By Length
• By Page Number
• By Date in the start of the bookmark's name (using a format specified by the user)

Reader -- Spell Check Suite

This is an adjusted version of my Acrobat Spell-Chekcer Suite, which works in the free Adobe (Acrobat) Reader applications, including Reader DC.

It contains almost all of the features of the original tool, such as:
- Spell-checking using all the dictionaries installed in Reader, provided the file has Content Extraction and Commenting rights enabled.

Acrobat -- Apply Page Rotations to Multiple Pages
